Steven Voges for New Braunfels City Council District 6

I believe it is important for city officials to work, engage and listen to their Constituents.

I’m treating my candidacy for City Council like I am applying for a job. I’m presenting information about me, my experiences, and qualifications as I would in any professional setting — because that’s exactly what this is: a job serving our community. I’m asking my constituents to review my resume, consider my experiences, and decide if I’m the right person to hire to do the work on their behalf. While it might not be feasible to physically meet everyone face to face, I am doing my best to communicate my message of being open, transparent, and responsive to the concerns of my community.

If you have any questions, concerns, or ideas please feel free to reach out.

A Little About ME

I have lived in Texas my entire life, I graduated from Texas State University, where I built a strong foundation for both my professional and personal journey. Over the years, I have developed a broad range of work experience that has given me insight into different industries, strengthened my leadership skills, and shaped my commitment to serving others.

My wife and I have been together for 10 years and married for 3. Last year we welcomed our newborn baby. Together, we have explored states across the country and cherished our international travel. Experiences that have broadened our perspective and deepened our appreciation for community, culture, and opportunity. For the past 8 years, I have lived in District 6, where I remain actively engaged and invested in the growth and success of our community and the future we are building for our family.

Volunteering In The Community

I have proudly called District 6 home for the past eight years. During that time, I’ve dedicated myself to serving our community by volunteering at the food bank, Dos Rios Watershed, Fischer Park, and Thru the Chute, as well as supporting events like Day of the Dead, Wein and Saengerfest, Wurstfest, and the County Fair. I also coordinate volunteer events through my workplace across New Braunfels, always working to bring more people together and strengthen the community we share.

My Priorities

Plan Infrastructure for the Long Term

How to accomplish it:

Support a regularly updated Capital Improvement Plans (CIP).
Require growth projections to be tied directly to infrastructure capacity (roads, water, wastewater, public safety).
Push for impact fees or developer contributions that offset the cost of growth.
Advocate for performance audits to ensure taxpayer dollars are spent efficiently.

A real-world application of my priorities

I would vote to prioritize funding for a roadway expansion before approving a large nearby development, ensuring infrastructure keeps pace with growth instead of reacting after the problems arises.

Hold New Development to a High Standard

How to accomplish it:

Strengthen development codes and design standards.
Require drainage, floodplain, and traffic impact studies before approval.
Support third-party engineering reviews for major projects.
Encourage phased development tied to infrastructure completion.

A real-world application of my priorities

If a subdivision is proposed near an established neighborhood, I would require enhanced storm-water detention, stricter runoff controls, and proof that drainage improvements won’t increase flooding for current residents before granting approval.

Promote Transparency and Accountability

How to accomplish it:

Advocate for user-friendly online budget dashboards, which breaks down how taxes are spent.
Be responsive and have open communications.
Support independent audits and publish performance metrics.
Require clear project cost breakdowns before votes.

A real-world application of my priorities

Before approving a major capital project, I would request a public presentation detailing total costs, funding sources, long-term maintenance expenses, and measurable outcomes so residents clearly understand the investment.

Build Spaces That Bring People Together & Support Local Business

How to accomplish it:

Invest in parks, plazas, trails, and community gathering areas.
Partner with local businesses during redevelopment planning.
Support mixed-use zoning that encourages walk-ability and small business growth.
Allocate funding for community events that highlight local culture.

A real-world application of my priorities

When redeveloping a city-owned property, I would advocate for public space combined with small retail storefronts to encourage local entrepreneurship and preserve New Braunfels unique character.
